Mid-Summer Update

Welcome to our Mid-Summer Update!

The DetroitIntern.com Network is gearing up for the 2009-2010 school year, building on our success from 2008-2009. We now have thousands of registered users, including hundreds of employers.

A. National Expansion

We are in the midst of our national expansion with the soft launch of our four new regional websites: HoustonIntern.com, InternChicago.com, InternWashington.com, and InternAtlanta.com.

Just sign in with your DetroitIntern Network login email address and password to access any of the sites.

Please watch for the major launch for these sites in September, 2009.

B. Our Blogs

Please send us notices of career-related events or workshops that you are participating in or sponsoring to admin@detroitintern.com. If approved, we will post your announcement on our blogs.

C. Employer Relations Consultant

We are proud to announce the hiring of Danielle N. Kellogg as our Employer Relations Consultant. Danielle assists us with building our employer databases, determining marketing and collaborative opportunities, and fostering new relationships. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan.

Retooling the Automotive Industry Career Transition and Entrepreneurial Workshop Series - August 1st

Dearborn, Michigan - As we all know the automotive industry is severely struggling in today's difficult society. According to CNNMONEY.com "A plea by struggling auto parts makers for $8 billion to $10 billion in additional federal loan guarantees was turned down by the Obama administration's auto task force last week." CNN Money also states that "Widespread bankruptcies and shutdowns at suppliers could affect not only efforts to restart assembly lines at GM and Chrysler, but could spread to Ford Motor and the North American plants of Asian rivals such as Toyota Motor and Honda."

A Purposed Transition presents "Retooling the Automotive Industry Career Transition and Entrepreneurial Workshop Series." Their motto is A New Focus. A New Direction. A New You. 5k Run - Sept 5, 2009 - Hosted by Ypsilanti Area Chamber of Commerce

On Saturday, September 5, 2009, the Ypsilanti Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a 5k Run sponsored by Quantum Physical Therapy Centers at EMU's Rynearson Stadium from 5:00 to 7:00pm, in conjunction with the EMU vs. Army football game. Immediately following the run, there will be a free tailgate on the track of the stadium just prior to kick-off.

In addition to a free ticket to the game, participants will receive a t-shirt (if registered before August 31), water bottle, numbered bid and chip timer, medal, as well as fun giveaways and coupons. The fastest man and woman will receive $100, which will be awarded during the football game. Participants may also order additional tickets to the football game (and post-run tailgate) in advance for $3 each.

The entry fee is $25 per person, or $20 if part of a corporate team of four or more, if registration is received prior to August 31. After that, the fee will be $30. For participants under the age of 10 or who are members of the ROTC/Armed Forces, the entry fee is $10. Registration is available online at ypsichamber.org or by calling (734) 482-4920. All proceeds will go towards the Chamber's Economic Development initiatives.
